Bought from Mr. Reynosa a washer, dryer in the past and just had him come out to diagnose my new washer that I’ve had for less than a year from Home Depot. He came same day I called and checked the washer and was very honest and said there was nothing wrong with it. He gave me some tips, apparently I was using to much detergent and he explained to me what was going on. All I paid was a very low service call fee. Thanks Mr. Reynosa for being honest. I highly recommend this company.

Broken appliances for half the cost

My family has bought two washing machines from Mr Reynosa in the last two years. The first one lasted almost a year and the second one lasted almost two months.

They said the first one had a bad control board so it was cheaper to replace the washing machine. They picked up the broken washer for free.

The second machine, an Amana top loader, seemed like a good buy at $380 (with tax and $50 delivery). It came with the usual 30 day warranty. It stopped working two weeks outside of warranty.

We called them to see what they could do for us. They made a free service call and according to Mr Reynosa himself the suspension gave out because we “put a large load” in the washer. He showed me how the drum was lower than it usually sat to prove it.

I disagreed and he made a point to show me a comforter in the dryer to prove it. Funny enough, I had to lug wet clothes and blankets from the laundromat the day before to dry them at home but he decided that was the cause. I didn’t even think to mention the setting for “bulky items” on the machine.

I asked if they backed their work and checked their machines before they sold them. They told me that they source them from a warehouse and maintain them before they are sold. He said he could replace the suspension for $120 including labor. This was with a $40 discount to look out for us.

I also asked what happened to the broken machines when they were picked up. He and his son assured me the old units went to the dump. I explained to him that this is my mom’s machine and asked if there was anything he could do make it right. He told me he couldn’t cover both the parts and the labor. Man’s got to pay himself. Fair enough.

I told them I’d get back to them. I couldn’t find someone closer than Hanford who does this work so I reached out and researched.

The washing machine wasn’t agitating and made a ticking noise when it tried. I contacted two different professionals and was told the most likely issue was the shift actuator. Turns out they were right.

When I looked under the machine there was brown sludge all over the cover, the connectors to the shift actuator and most of the housing. I cleaned it up and replaced the shift actuator so we could finally get some laundry done. (Pics available on request)

While replacing it I noticed the suspension rods they mentioned were covered in some kind of glue around the base and springs. It seemed strange at the time.

After a few loads we decided to change the splutch kit to be safe and there was more brown sludge all over the housing and new shift actuator.

I did some more research and from what I understand it is due to a leaky gearbox and the only way to service it is to replace the entire transmission. The transmission is $160 for this model, so about $40 more than replacing the suspension rods (with labor of course).

I may be wrong on the gear box but I’m curious if any of the Whirlpool servicemen still in the area have thoughts here.

I wondered when we talked why they were sure it was the suspension. Then I looked up what new suspension rods looked like. It turns out the glue that was slathered all over the base of the rods was an easier solution than putting $40 and a half hour of work into them.

So if this machine was checked it could have been sold “as is” with a bad shift actuator, “refurbished suspension rods” and a transmission that is likely on its way out.

So with all that I’m wondering: was the machine serviced? Was it another customer’s machine? Which warehouse offers defective items that are ready to break down?

All I know is I’ll change the suspension rods and we’ll run it until we find something serviced and stable. I’m hoping to go a few months with the transmission but it looks like there are no guarantees if it doesn’t blow up within 30 days of purchase.

We live in a small town and people rely on Mr Reynosa when money is tight to provide a used but quality product. At least you also know who will be there to “fix it” when it breaks down two weeks outside of warranty.
