I regret to leave this negative review, because MVR is so great and so needed in our community. But as a regular volunteer for 2 years (in addition to $$ donor and customer), my experience was that when I eventually spoke up against repeated disrespect from management and brought up other legitimate concerns, those concerns were dismissed and I was essentially ostracized for months. If this non-profit plans to rely on volunteer support, volunteers need to be treated with basic respect and allowed a voice if there are concerns. They should also have a proper path to recourse when issues arise instead of a policy that seems to want to isolate, dismiss, punish and/or stamp down questioning. Voicing my concerns went nowhere, thus this public review. I so want MVR to succeed, but believe change is needed. I don’t want anyone to experience what I experienced or feel like I didn’t do enough to try to prevent it from repeating.

If mgmt replies to this, I will not engage in a back and forth. I spent 8 months trying to have concerns properly addressed in private. Disrespect isn’t acceptable in any workplace and doesn’t get a pass just because you’re trying to keep an important cause afloat. As MVR often says, “there are no owners”; it takes a team and even with committed, hard-working, knowledgeable leaders, teams require communication and mutual respect to work.

Recently went to the rebuild store as I enjoy reusing and creating out of recycled material. After being quoted a price on some materials, I left and bought the same thing at Lowe's plus all of the hardware to install it at less than 1/3 of the price. Know the cost of items before you go, or you could be spending more than new.

Stop into MVR before heading to the big box stores! Whether you're feeling creative or feeling the need for a refresh on an existing room or project, MVR has what you need. Plus, the shop dog is such a joy, and the Manager is knowledgeable and helpful. I've heard other customers say "you saved me a trip to Wasilla!" and if you live in Palmer, you know that's always a good thing!
